In a more advanced world, this would be how (American) health care works.

You get sick. Maybe you get in an accident, and you need medical treatment.

You go to a doctor’s office. Maybe you go to an emergency room. Maybe you need an ambulance.

You go to a doctor who has your medical history. Maybe you go to the nearest hospital which you’ve never been to. In any case, you give them some personal identification info, and they obtain a copy of your entire medical history from birth.

You receive medical treatment. Maybe you need a serious operation. In any case, you get the most effective treatment, nothing more, nothing less.

You receive the bill for the medical care and pay it back in a reasonable amount of time. Maybe you can’t pay it all back. So the government pays for your medical bills, but you still owe the money to the government. Maybe.

I say this is how health care works in a more advanced world. However, it is entirely possible to have this in the current world. The only thing in the way of this is politics.

The government is responsible for providing effective, affordable health care to all of its citizens. Otherwise, we can not say we live in an advanced world.

Call it Socialism. Call it whatever the hell you want. I call it a basic necessity.
